poem for mr. griffin

just go down
just go down
and don't ask questions

he was simply set upon us like a fly without a veil
like a storm without a tether like a ship without a sail
but he gave us words of wisdom all too young we'd not receive
all too damaged in our conscience and we could not yet believe

just go down
just go down
and don't ask questions

all the pains that passed between us all the questions never asked
each one written from our souls heart took to sorrow or to task
i loved wisdom cast beyond you i loved things i never heard
you were written in each promise every tale upon each word

i go back now in my memories i'm going to try to pull you here
but you're still there in the heavens even though i want you near
there's a stillness in my suffering there's a wanting with no end
while i'm drawn tonight to your memory i can't really even pretend

maybe hooked back to my childhood all the things i can't replace
when i'm looking to the mirror at the things i cannot face

just go down
just go down
and don't ask questions
